Microsoft is on the verge to the change people's perception about Lumia devices as rumours suggest cool new features making their way to the next flagships.

According to the latest rumours about the upcoming flagship Windows Phone devices, codenamed Cityman and Talkman, the Redmond-based software titan will take the competition a notch higher by integrating eye-scanning security. The advanced security system will serve as an alternative to fingerprint scanner, which is a common feature in upcoming flagship smartphones.

According to Windows Central, Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL as they have been referred to so far, will be called Lumia 950 and 950 XL at launch. There is no explanation as to why Microsoft is skipping a model number, but we can draw hints from the company's decision to skip Windows 9 for Windows 10.

In addition to the iris-scanning security, the larger Lumia 950 XL will feature a Surface Pen and a smart cover. The Surface Pen is a useful addition on a large screen, which is expected to be measured at 5.7-inches. The concept has been successful in Samsung Galaxy Note line-up, which comes with a dedicated S-Pen for various operations.

The specs of Lumia 950 and 950 XL have also been leaked, but Microsoft is yet to confirm the existence of both handsets. Meanwhile, these specs make up the upcoming Microsoft's Windows 10-powered flagships.

Lumia 940 or 950 is said to feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display with 1,440x2,560 pixel resolution, 20mp PureView rear camera, 5mp wide-angle front snapper, 3,000mAh removable battery, integrated Qi Wireless charging technology and the latest USB Type-C port. The handset will be powered by a 64-bit hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with microSD card slot.

As for Lumia 950 XL or 940 XL, besides the jump in screen size to 5.7 inches, the processor in use will be the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC. While most details remain unchanged, Lumia 950 XL will get aluminium side-buttons, a bigger 3,300mAh battery and triple LED flash.

Following the company's signature design, both handsets will feature matte white or black polycarbonate body. Microsoft is expected to launch the handsets at the IFA Conference in Berlin this September and the sales will begin in October or November.
