Last week, Micromax's online subsidiary YU Televentures Ltd confirmed to host an event in New Delhi on 8 September.

Later, the company went on a promotional blitzkrieg on Twitter releasing a series of teaser posters, hinting YU might unveil a camera-centric smartphone on Tuesday. However, a new report has now surfaced online saying there will be unveiling of two devices, not one as earlier assumed.

Online blog Tech Gadgetsz, while leafing through Zauba.com--an India-based export-import logistic website--has stumbled on a mysterious Micromax YU device, code-named YU5050, being imported from China to India (New Delhi) for testing purposes.

As per the manifest,  Micromax YU YU5050 sports a 5.2-inch display and is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 810 Octa-core, the same Qualcomm's 2015 series top-end SoC (System on Chip) found in the current crop of Tier-1 branded marquee devices (to name a few OnePlus 2, Xiaomi Mi Note series and Sony Xperia Z5 series). It is backed by 4GB RAM and comes with storage having option to expand via microSD card.

In a related development, Micromax YU YU5050 was spotted on Geekbench performance benchmarking site revealing that the device will boast full HD (1920x1080p) display and run on the latest Cyanogen OS 12.1 (Android 5.1.1 Lollipop). It reportedly scored 4622 and 1353 points in multi-core and single-core testing respectively.

Key details like battery capacity, camera and other features are yet to be ascertained to reaffirm whether Micromax YU device is a true premium smartphone, but the use of Snapdragon 810 processor, is more than enough for us to believe YU5050 will certainly come well endowed in all aspects.

Interestingly, the unit price listed on the logistic website says the new Micromax YU smartphone will cost between Rs 20,250 and Rs 20,750. So considering import duty charges and Indian Rupee's currency exchange, the final price of the device may fall in the range of Rs 20,999 and Rs 21,499.

This is a huge revelation for fans. Micromax YU is popular for churning out affordable handsets and now the company seems to be ready to launch its flagship smartphone to take on the top MNCs in the niche top-end premium category and stir up another storm in the smartphone industry this month.

New budget YU Yuphoria variant also in the offing

Micromax YU is not just settling with only one smartphone launch on 8 September, the company is also planning to release more affordable Yuphoria variant, code-named YU YU4711.

YU YU4711 was seen tested on Geekbench website. It has come to light that the device houses a 64-bit class 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 SoC (System on Chip), the very processor seen in Yu Yuphoria. But the soon-to-be released YU4711 comes with 1GB RAM, that is half the RAM capacity of the original model. We believe that the new model might be made available for nearly Rs 5,000.

Stay tuned for more information, as we will be bringing live updates from the event in New Delhi on Tuesday.
