Home-grown smartphone-maker Micromax has released yet another KitKat-powered budget handset dubbed as Canvas L in India.

As the tentative name suggests, it is big-screen phone boasting mammoth 5.5-inch qHD display with 960x540p resolution. It is powered by 4.4 Android OS backed by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor backed by sumptuous 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt memory and a high-capacity 2,350 mAh battery, which can run the device for up to eight hours of talk-time and close to 210 hours under standby mode.

Competitions:

The new Micromax Canvas L A108 is currently available at Infibeam for 10,499 and will be up against Xolo Q200L, Xiaomi Redmi Note (yet to hit stores), and compete as cheaper alternative to Intex Aqua Octa, Samsung's Mega Series (5.8 and 6.3) and HP Slate 6 and Asus Zenfone 6. It will also be battling with its own siblings - Canvas XL, Canvas Doodle series 2 & 3.

Over the last one month, Micromax has been flooding the market with a slew of budget KitKat-powered smartphones, probably to off-set the competition leveraged by the entry of new MNC brands - Xiaomi, Asus, Obi Mobile, who are eyeing to cash-in on burgeoning Indian smartphone-market share.

Huge sales of Motorola's Moto series smartphones, especially Moto G and Moto E has reportedly helped the company to reach 4 position, displacing the former leader, Nokia (now owned by Microsoft Corp.) to fifth position in the smartphone leader-chart in India, reported market watch dog Canalys.

Micromax currently stands second on the chart behind the leader Samsung and followed by local counterpart Karbonn.

With the introduction of competitively-priced Xiaomi Mi3, Micromax and other domestic brands are set for more challenges ahead, but hopefully this company's Android One project, a joint-venture with Google, is expected to bring some luck this Diwali season.

The American company has formerly joined hands with Micromax, Karbonn, Spice and Celkon to produce low-cost handsets (less than $100/ around ₹6,000) with stock Android OS.

More reports are surfacing online that New Delhi-based Intex and tier-1 brand HTC are also in negotiation with Google.
