The upcoming MGS title, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, will arrive soon, and it is reportedly the most improved and extensive Metal Gear Solid game of all time. And as of now, a number of details for the game have been released via a plethora of high profile reveals.

The game is said to feature a number of new components in its multiplayer offering, including the one vs. one multiplayer component of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) extensions to Mother Base. We have already talked extensively about the Mother Base, but not much has been written and said for the FOB.

Here's a detailed look at Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain's FOB extensions:

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain – FOB Extensions Detailed

Take Care of Your Mother Base, First

To access the multiplayer component that's featured in the Forward Operating Bases, you will first need to build up your Mother Base. The player will start off with a Command Platform that he or she can then expand into a host of other platforms, as per the player's likes. The style that you employ in building up the base will depend upon your style of play. However, the players will be required to build their bases first in order to increase the capital, which they can later employ for expanding into FOBs. Once the FOB is successfully in place, the players will then be open to threat from other players online. Remember that the most important thing here is to increase your capital as much as possible before heading into the challenges in the FOB extensions.

Buff Up Your Defence

Once the player has access to the required amount of capital, they can then start the expansion of their FOBs. For starters, with the money in hand, it's important that players build up their defences to see off even the meanest of opponents. Players will be required to set up their defences, keeping in mind that they are heading into a fight with another human player, not a bot, and will have to plan things accordingly. Apart from the several defensive measures (note that security cameras can be disabled), it's also imperative that players staff their bases heavily, making it more difficult for infiltrators. Again, to hire soldiers, make sure you have a healthy amount of capital at your disposal.

Your Presence Will be Crucial

Whenever there is an attack on your base, you will be notified. The best way to fend off infiltrators from your base is by being present at the location. Once the player is notified, he or she can then choose to stop their current mission and head to the base to defend it. The player's defensive systems will keep the player up to date with the infiltrator's position in the map, and the players can then stop them from using the Fulton recovery devices for stealing their goods and equipment. If the player gets killed in the process, he/she will then spawn anywhere on the base as a different character. Building a big base gives you access to more characters, with each of them coming with their own set of specialised skills and weapons.

As of now, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is set to release next month for all major consoles and PC.

Stay tuned for more updates!
