Mercedes-AMG, the performance sub division of the Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the track-focused flagship version of the AMG GT sports car, the GT R, on Friday. The Affalterbach-based outfit unveiled the AMG GT R in an exclusive AMG green hell magno paintwork and claims the performance proves of the vehicle has been fine tuned at the Nurburgring racetrack, which is better known as the Green Hell.
Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine with twin turbochargers and direct injection. The 3982cc engine develops 577bhp of power at 6,250rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1,900 rpm. All the power is transmitted to the rear wheels via AMG Speedshift seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine powers the GT R to sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 3.6 seconds before reaching the top speed 318kmph.
This is the third member of the AMG GT family, others being AMG GT and AMG GT S. The AMG GT R weighs 1,554 kgs, which makes it 90 kgs lighter than the S version. The AMG GT R is also powered 74bhp and 50Nm of torque higher than the GT S version, which was launched in India last year for Rs. 2.4 crore, ex-Delhi.
Apart from the gleaming green colour, the AMG GT R stands out from the other GT models with a more aggressive body featuring an AMG Panamericana grille derived from the GT3 race car. The sports car features wider front and rear wings and increased track width offers better grip at the higher cornering speeds. With double diffuser that enhances aerodynamic efficiency adds character to the face of the sports car. The lightweight forged wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 measuring 275/35 ZR 19 at the front and 325/30 ZR 20 at the rear comes as standard. The AMG GT R also comes with active rear-wheel steering, nine-way adjustable traction control system and the adjustable coil-over suspension with additional electronic control.
