Mehdi Masroor Biswas, a man from Bengaluru, is said to be the one who ran one of the most influential pro-ISIS Twitter accounts under the name of Shami Witness, while holding a white collar job in a major food company.

While he requested Channel 4 not to reveal his identity to the public as his life would be in danger, reports on his real identity is coming out fast. Among the ISIS circle, he was known by the name of Akhoona Shami.

The Indian intelligence officials are now working with the local sleuths on tracking down the man, who has now been identified as Mehdi Masroor Biswas. An NIA investigating officer, who chose to remain anonymous, told IBTimes India that the agency has already given instructions to the cyber cell to find the location of the man.

The NIA is also working with the Bangalore City Crime Branch (CCB) to confirm the identity of the man, believed to Mehdi. The agency official, however, refused to comment further on the investigation.

Bangalore Police Commissioner M N Reddi too confirmed that the CCB and NIA are coordinating the investigation. "We are tracking down the man," he noted.

Apart from posting messages supporting the ISIS and influencing others to join the militant group, Mehdi is also keen to join the war in Iraq.

"If I had a chance to leave everything and join them I might have.. my family needs me here," he told Channel 4.

Mehdi also maintains a blog, which along with his Facebook page has been deleted.

On his Twitter account @ShamiWitness, Mehdi had more than 17,700 followers with his tweets being viewed two million times each month.
