Maruti Suzuki's new WagonR AMT offerings seem to have received lukewarm response in India.
A report in CarWale claims that the WagonR AMT is currently available without any waiting period. This could change when more customers get to know about the AMT system and how it works.
The WagonR is the company's third AMT avatar in the country after Celerio and AltoK10. Maruti launched its AMT variants of its tall-boy WagonR and Stingray in India for Rs 4.76 lakh and Rs 4.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively.
The AMT avatar of the WagonR continues to draw power from the same 1.0L K-Series petrol engine, which churns out a power of 67bhp and 90Nm torque. The transmission is handled by Magneti Marelli's five-speed transmission and claims a mileage of 20.51 kmpl, same as manual transmission.
In both WagonR and Stingray, the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, which is also known as automated manual transmission (AMT), is available in Vxi variants. With the launch of AMT avatars of the WagonR, Maruti also added safety features like driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants, including the base versions of WagonR and Stingray.
