Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car maker, has recalled 3,796 units Ciaz mid-sized sedan in India to fix a problem with the clutch operation system.

The company said that cars have been called back to the workshops to inspect a suspected fault. The recall is said to be a voluntary move by the company to avoid any potential harm to the owners and is limited to 3,796 Ciaz (manual transmission) cars which were manufactured till 7 November 2014.

The inspection and replacement of faulty parts will be done free of cost and the owners of the vehicles will be directly contacted by the company.

The users can also visit the company's official website www.marutisuzuki.com to check if their models also have been affected, by entering the 14 digit chassis number.

Launched on 6 October, Maruti Ciaz, the replacement of the company's SX4 sedan, has been getting good response in the Indian market. The company, releasing its sales numbers for the month of November, said that it sold 5,232 of Ciaz and SX4 during the period, recording 2,516 per cent growth.

Recent Vehicle Recalls in India

  • Earlier this month, another car maker Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) issued a voluntary recall of 5,834 units of its Corolla Altis diesel variants in India to rectify a problem with the powertrain.
  • Ford India recently summoned 3,072 units of Fiesta to fix the problem with glow plug control module.
  • SUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra recalled 2,300 units of its popular SUVs Scorpio and XUV500, and multi-purpose vehicle Xylo to fix a problem with the vacuum pump in engines.
  • German luxury auto maker Audi recalled 6,758 units of A4 sedans to update its airbag control unit software.
  • Honda cars recalled 2,338 units of its hatchback Brio, compact sedan Amaze and sports-utility vehicle CR-V to fix a problem with the faulty airbag in October.
  • Nissan India recalled around 9,000 units of Micra and Sunny, which were manufactured between 2008 and 2012 to replace faulty airbag.
  • Honda recalled over 1,075 units of Honda Accord and 252 units of Honda CR-V over faulty airbags.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra, India's SUV maker recalled 23,519 units of its iconic Scorpio in the country over a faulty pressure regulating valves.
  • Hyundai Motor India recalled 2,437 units of Santa FE SUV in the country to fix a problem with the Stop Lamp Switch.
  • Earlier, Maruti Suzuki had recalled 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and DZire in India to fix a problem with the fuel-filler neck. The recall included 47,237 units of its popular hatchback Swift, 42,481 units of its sedan DZire and 13,593 units of its multi-passenger vehicle, Ertiga, which were manufactured between 12 November 2013 and 4 February 2014.
  • Toyota India had also issued a recall for 45,000 units of its multi-utility vehicle (MPV) Innova, which were manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008, over a problem with the steering column.
  • Till date, General Motors India has had the biggest recall in the country. The company recalled 1.14 lakh units of the Chevrolet Tavera in July last year, which were manufactured between 2005 and 2013 to fix the issues related to emissions and specifications.
