When Maruti Suzuki announced the Baleno premium hatchback, it was touted to come with Suzuki's newly-developed 1.0-litre Boosterjet direct injection turbocharged petrol engine. The engine features reduced displacements that will help the car attain better fuel efficiency. However, the India model was launched with 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine. The 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine was limited to foreign markets.

Folks at TeamBHP have now snapped the Baleno with Boosterjet engine at Kochi. The car was spotted at a hotel parking and was in black colour. The current Baleno sold in India is not available in black shade.

The new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine is a part of Suzuki's new family of direct-injection turbocharged petrol engines that also includes a larger 1.4-litre unit. The Boosterjet is expected to make 110bhp and 170Nm torque. That number will make the vehicle one of the most powerful hatchbacks in the country and the company is reportedly planning to launch it as the fastest hatchback.

The report claims the Baleno with Boosterjet engine was benchmarking the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI when the pictures were taken. The Baleno was employed with five-speed manual transmission, while the Polo GT TSI is equipped with seven-speed DSG transmission.

The Baleno under test was an export mode. The car was equipped with additional safety features such as side airbags, disc brakes for all tyres, tyre pressure monitoring system and radar-based brake support.
