Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer English youngster Luke Shaw a helping hand both mentally and physically, after the left-back sustained a horrific injury that caused a double fracture in his right leg, while playing during the midweek.
The 20-year-old left-back will reportedly undergo a second surgery on his leg today, and he will also be provided counselling to get over from the mental trauma of the injury he suffered on Tuesday, during Manchester United's UEFA Champions League Group B game against PSV Eindhoven at the Philips Stadion.
A sprinting Shaw fell down to the ground awkwardly after a strong sliding challenge came in from Mexican defender Hector Moreno inside the PSV box. It was only the 15th minute of the match when the incident took place, and the Englishman received oxygen on the pitch for more than eight minutes after the incident, before being stretchered off.
According to the Daily Star, the youngster will receive treatement to get over his "mental demons" before he finally makes his re-entry into the football pitch.
"Part of the recovery process will involve the player dealing with his mental demons and the bad memories of what happened to him that night," a club source claimed to the British daily.
"A psychologist will be made available to him if needed, to talk him through it all and help his chances of being mentally ready to return to the game."
Although it has not been confirmed by Manchester United yet, it is being reported that Shaw, who was rushed to St. Anna Ziekenhuis hospital on the outskirts of Eindhoven on Tuesday night, will undergo a second surgery after breaking the tibula and fibula bone in his right leg.
The first operation on the player was conducted by two orthopaedic surgeons and a trauma specialist, and they have reportedly asked the player to spend some more days in Holland, before going back to England.
Shaw will hope to recover just in time to play a part again for Manchester United in the latter part of the season, and will also hope to be a part of England's squad for the European Championships in France next year.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had suggested that the player could be in the sidelines for the next four to six months.
