Manchester United are reportedly ready to offload their record signing Angel Di Maria in the summer as they look to step up their efforts to sign Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Despite starting his United career on a bright note, doing exceptionally well in the first few fixtures, Di Maria has not been in the best of forms of late, with many describing his record breaking switch from Real Madrid to Old Trafford as a big flop.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has spoken in support of the Argentine, insisting that the winger needs "more time to adapt to the Premier League."

But it is believed that the player himself is keen on making a move out of Old Trafford due to his family (his wife Jorgelina Cardoso and one-year-old daughter Mia) being unsettled after falling victims to an attempted robbery at their home earlier this year.

Due to this reason, the Red Devils are looking to cash in on Di Maria, with French Champions Paris Saint-Germain still believed to be interested in securing his signature, according to the Express.

And it is believed that the Red Devils will be using the funds from the Argentine's sale to renew their interest in Real Madrid's Bale.

The Welsh winger, who moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid for a world record of €100 million (£86 million), has time and again stated that he is not interested in leaving Bernabeu.

But United are reportedly confident that they will be able to land the 24-year-old if they can agree a deal with the European Champions.

Apart from Bale, United boss Louis van Gaal is also reportedly still after his long standing defensive targets Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and PSV Eindhoven's Dutch winger Memphis Depay.

Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has been handed a six-match suspension by the FA for spitting at Papiss Cisse during his side's midweek win at Newcastle.

The Northern Irishman, who was charged along with Cisse by the FA for being involved in a spitting row, had decided to appeal against the decision.

But he was found guilty of the offence by the FA's Independent Regulatory Commission, and now he has been banned for six games (the standard sentence for spitting)
