Manchester United are reportedly still keen on landing Barcelona defender Dani Alves despite the Brazilian being offered a new deal at the Camp Nou.

Earlier, the 31-year-old right-back was expected to leave Barcelona on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract, with there being reports of the Catalan based club not willing to offer him an extension.

However the Brazilian's agent Dinorah Santana, who is also his ex-wife, has confirmed that the Catalans have offered a new deal, even though she admits that negotiations are far from complete.

"On Monday, I had a meeting with [director] Javier Bordad. On Wednesday I have had the second meeting," Santana told Spanish newspaper Sport.

"I have already received an offer [for a new contract], although I can't say if I am happy or not [with it]. There will be more meetings. They told me they will call me to arrange the next one."

Alves may end up remaining at Barcelona, where he claims he has always been happy, but Manchester United are reportedly detgermined to get his signature one way or the other this summer.

United boss Louis van Gaal has been using Antonio Valencia in the right-back position this season after being dissatisfied with the performances of Rafael.

Now, with Rafael most likely to leave Old Trafford this summer, the Dutchman is understood to be on the lookout for a new right-back, and Alves is on his radar, according to the Daily Mirror.

Nathaniel Clyne is believed to be Van Gaal's preferred choice this summer, but Manchester United will not find it easy to sign him due to Saints being reluctant to sell and a lot of other clubs, including Chelsea, also interested in the England right-back.

With money not being a problem for United, they may be able to lure Alves with a better offer especially considering he has still not accepted the contract extension at the Nou Camp.

Alves, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2008 for a reported €32.5 million, has found a lot of success at the Camp Nou, winning a plenty of silverware including four La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns.
