Manchester United Transfer News: Fletcher, Zaha Complete Deadline Day Moves to West Brom and Crystal Palace

Manchester United have confirmed that Darren Fletcher has ended his 12-year stay with the club and joined West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer.

"Darren Fletcher has ended his long-standing association with Manchester United after joining West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer in a late deal on transfer deadline day," read a statement on the Red Devils official website.

Although Fletcher's contract was set to expire in the summer, United granted him a free transfer six months in advance so that he would be able to find a new club in January.

West Ham United were also being linked to the Scottish midfielder, but talks with the London club broke down and Fletcher ended up moving to the Hawthorns.

The Baggies also announced the signing on their official website, revealing that the midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year-deal (with a one-year extension option), and will be wearing the number 24 shirt.

"Albion have completed the signing of Scotland captain Darren Fletcher from Manchester United on a free transfer," read a statement in the club's official website.

"The 31-year-old midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year-deal, with a one-year option in the club's favour, after completing a medical at the training ground this evening. He will wear the No.24 shirt."

Fletcher expressed his delight at having signed for the Baggies, saying that this move is a "fantastic new challenge" for him.

"It feels great. This is a fantastic new challenge for me in my career," the Scotsman told the Baggies official website.

Fletcher revealed that West Brom manager Tony Pulis was the main reason behing his decision to move to the Hawthorns.

"Everyone involved in making the deal happen has been fantastic. And a big reason I'm here is because of the head coach," he added. "He [Pulis] has impressed me from the first minute. When someone shows how much they want you it's a great feeling."

Meanwhile, United have also confirmed that Wilfried Zaha has completed a permanent switch to Crystal Palace for a reported £3 million.

"Wilfried Zaha's move to Crystal Palace from Manchester United has been made permanent following three separate loan spells with the South London club," read a statement on the Red Devils official website.

The 22-year-old winger, who failed to break into United's first team following his £15 million switch from Palace in January 2013, spent three different loan spells with the Eagles, Cardiff City and again Palace, before making a permanent switch to Selhurst Park.

Zaha, who has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at Crystal Palace, expressed his delight at having returned to the club following his limited game time at Old Trafford.

"I wasn't getting much game time at Manchester United so took the opportunity of coming back on loan this season." Zaha told the Eagles' official website. "To now have the chance to make the move permanent and come home to Selhurst Park is something I'm delighted about."

The winger says he is confident that he will improve and become a better player at Selhurst Park under manager Alan Pardew.

"For me to be a better player I need to play more games and having a gaffer that, I know, has great trust in me gives me the confidence I need to help me improve my game."

"I started playing here when I was eight years of age and my family live local and to have the opportunity to take the field in the Premier League for this club is a dream come true."
