Rest will be the operative word for all the major teams, including Manchester United when they take on Yeovil Town in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
The other major injury news from Manchester United's point of view will be the fitness of Angel Di Maria, who could make at least the bench against Yeovil.
Di Maria is back in training after sustaining a pelvic injury, which hampered his comeback from a recent hamstring problem.
After a bright start to life in the English Premier League, Di Maris's stock has stalled a little bit of late, and the Argentine will hope for a more sustained, injury-free run in the New Year.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal will also welcome the return of the Argentine, be that in this FA Cup tie, or in the next match in the Premier League, as an in-form Di Maria gives the team that extra dimension.
One player who will definitely not feature, though, is Ashley Young, who has put in a few impressive performances of late for Manchester United.
The winger/wing-back had to be taken off against Stoke City late in the game on New Year's Day and Van Gaal confirmed Young would be out for a while with a "bad" hamstring injury.
"He has a hamstring injury," said Van Gaal, who described the hamstring problem as bad. "He's out for many weeks, I think.
"But I'm not a doctor so we have to wait [for the complete diagnosis]."
Van Gaal's injury problems are slowly but surely easing, with Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling returning against Stoke in the Premier League clash three days ago, with Adnan Januzaj and Ander Herrera also making their presence felt.
Herrera's return will be the one most welcomed, with the midfielder showing his class and ability in a recent run of games before injury cut short his resurgence.
While the above quartet are back, Marouane Fellaini and Marcos Rojo remain major doubts, while the game might come too early for Daley Blind and Antonio Valencia.
Manchester United were knocked out, indeed embarrassed, by a lower league side – MK Dons -- in their first bite at the Cup cherry in the Capital One Cup earlier this season, and while this Van Gaal side have evolved considerably since then, they will certainly be wary of lightning striking another time.
