The first test mule of Mahindra's new Scorpio automatic variant has been spied testing in the country, not long after the company launched the new avatar of iconic Scorpio SUV in the market.

Mahindra's new 2014 Scorpio made its India debut in September and the SUV has been earning tremendous response from auto lovers since then. But many auto enthusiasts were disappointed when Mahindra did not offer an automatic variant in the new Scorpio.

But here is some good news for those who have been waiting to hear about Scorpio automatic.

The SUV Kingpin has started testing its new Scorpio automatic, and MotorBash reader Anuj Kanojia managed to catch a glimpse of the new vehicle. The most interesting aspect of the new spy shots is the badging seen on the front door of the Scorpio, which reads automatic.

Since the new Scorpio is already in the market, there is not much to talk about the design and styling of the automatic Scorpio, except for the fact that the new variant will get Automatic gearbox mated to 2.2l mHawk diesel engine, which is tuned to pump in 120 PS power @ 4000 rpm and 280 Nm torque between 1800 to 2800 rpm.

The Scorpio automatic is likely to be offered only on the top models S8 or S10 and the new avatar is likely to be priced about 1 lakh higher than the manual variant of Scorpio. The SUV is likely to mark its entry by the end of December.

Currently, Mahindra new Scorpio is offered in five variants -- S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10. The base variant of the Scorpio is powered by the 2.5-liter 4 cylinder m2DiCr diesel engine, which can churn out a power of 75bhp @3,200rpm and a peak torque of 195Nm @1,400-2,200rpm, coupled to 5 speed manual transmissions and the other models are powered by 2.2 litre mHawk engine.
