Mahindra & Mahindra's new compact SUV TUV300, which was launched in 10 September, seems to be getting overwhelming response across the country. The compact SUV overtook sales of its main rival, the Ford EcoSport, in its first month itself and did well in the next month also.
The positive response to the TUV300 has prompted the company to increase production from the current 5,500 units per month to 6,000 units per month, suggest reports. The initial production capacity was 4,000 units.
Pravin Shah, president and chief executive, Automotive, Mahindra & Mahindra confirmed that the company is ramping up production to meet the growing market demand.
"TUV 300 continues to have a good pull in the market. We saw a good rush during festive season and the demand is sustaining, so we are ramping up the capacity. We had provisioned for 5,000 units a month, by adding more people we should be able to take up the capacity to 5500 to 6000 units, it is a work in progress," Shah told The Economic Times.
The TUV300 has received over 12,000 bookings by early November, out of which 50% are for the AMT variant. The Mahindra TUV300 is the first model to get AMT technology in its segment. The Indian utility vehicle major, sold 4,313 units and 4,551 units in September and October, respectively, as against 3,142 units and 3,417 units of EcoSport during the corresponding months.
Priced between Rs 6.9 lakh and Rs 9.12 lakh, the Mahindra TUV300 is offered in three variants -- TUV300 T4, TV300 T6 and TUV300 T8. The compact SUV is powered by 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, mHawk80 diesel engine, which is tuned to churn out 84bhp power and 230Nm torque. The engine comes paired to either a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
