The results of the Maharashtra assembly election, which took place on October 21, will be out on Thursday, October 24. The Election Commission of India (ECI) commenced the counting of the votes today at 8 am and will declare the results probably by 6 pm.

Soon after the polling ended for the Maharashtra assembly election, the exit polls predicted an easy victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was in Kedarnath in Uttarakhand along with his wife to offer prayers before the poll results.

However, Maharashtra witnessed lower voter turnout this year as compared to the 2014 assembly elections. The final voter turnout stood at 60.46 per cent, 3 per cent down from 63.13 per cent in 2014.

Addressing a press conference, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Two results are shocking for us-- Bypoll for Satara Lok Sabha constituency and Parli Assembly constituency. Our six ministers have lost, we will find out reasons tomorrow onward. Today's the day to celebrate our victory and let us do that."

NCP leader Supriya Sule told news agency ANI, "Today the country is stressing is about the economy, unemployment, price rise, farmers' issue being big challenges. Core issues are being left out. This mandate clearly tells you that people want somebody who will deliver superior results."

"I appreciate the trust and the faith and express absolute gratitude to people of Maharashtra for showing this faith in us," the NCP leader added.

Defections didn't work for people who left us: Sharad Pawar

Addressing a press meet, NCP President Sharad Pawar thanked the opposition for working hard and all members of the Congress-NCP and their allies. "Power comes, power goes but it is important to remain committed to a cause and we thank people for the love they showed," Pawar said.

"One important thing to see is that people who left us, have not been accepted. Defections have not worked in favour of those who left," the NCP President added.

EC trend suggest BJP-Sena set to form government

The status for 288 out of 288 constituencies for the Maharashtra Assembly elections are available on the website of the Election Commission. The BJP is currently leading in 10o while Shiv Sena is leading in 63 seats. The Congress-NCP alliance are leading in 96 seats. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is leading by 11,134 votes in Nagpur South West seat.

At 11:30 am, the Maharashtra battle is one-sided as the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is leading in over 160 seats. Out of the 288 assembly seats, BJP is leading in 99 seats while Shiv Sena is leading in 61 seats. Congress is leading in 41 seats while NCP is ahead in 48.

BJP-Sena leading in Maharashtra, Pawar's NCP emerging stronger

As per the EC trends, BJP is leading in 101 constituencies, Shiv Sena in 64 constituencies, NCP in 52 constituencies and Congress in 39. NCP candidate and nephew of Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar is leading from Baramati by 63,908 votes.
