Leading Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Monday (10 August) unveiled the company's first made in India phone, Redmi 2 Prime, in Andhra Pradesh. The new Xiaomi phone is manufactured at the company's supply partner Foxconn's assembling plant at Sri City, Visakhapatnam, .

"Redmi 2 Prime is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to be assembled in our facility in Sri City. We would like to thank Andhra Pradesh government for helping us to start local manufacturing within just six months. Initial talks started in February and today we have already started to sell the Redmi 2 Prime," The Indian Express quoted Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra as saying.

Advanced Redmi 2 Prime version was first unveiled way back in January in China. Now the device has been finally made available in India.

Key difference between the new Prime and the original variant is that the former comes packed with 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory, whereas the latter ships with1GB physical memory and 8GB storage space. Rest of the features like display, processor (Snapdragon 410), camera and battery capacity remain the same.

Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime price and availability:

The company has confirmed that the new Redmi 2 Prime will be available in grey and white colour variants at its official e-Store Mi.com/in (HERE) on Monday onwards.
