Liverpool have been alerted about a potential move for Martin Montaya away from Barcelona.

The Reds have been on the lookout of a quality right back with Glen Johnson having been troubled with injuries and along with his performances, which has been a major question.

So, a replacement is on the cards for Glen Johnson with Montoya's agent having already stated that the player would quit the La Liga giants. Though, Brendan Rodgers has added Javier Manquillo in their ranks last summer, but are looking for experienced players, who could bolster their squad.

"Since we wrote to the club, Martin has played four times," Juan Dios Carrasco, the player's agent told Spanish radio station Cope.

"This made us happy. We would rather he is on the pitch than on the bench or in the stands.

"But our idea is still the same and the player wants to leave."

Not only Liverpool, many other clubs would love to include such a top class defender in their squad as well. But, the Spaniard has been largely frustrated with the game time that he has received at the club.

The player has only started three times this season for Barcelona, which is a major concern. Montaya is just 23 years old and what he needs is game time to improve upon as a player.

Though, he may be playing in one of the biggest clubs in world football, what is the point, if he is not able to prove his skills and worth to anyone.

So, it could be a wise move for the Spaniard, if he moves to Anfield. Brendan Rodgers could provide him a guaranteed place in the starting eleven.

The player can give so much to the Reds, as he is good at both the offensive as well as the defensive side of things, which the Reds boss appreciates from a player. He wants his full back to attack with full venom and create goal scoring opportunities as well.

The Spaniard inspite of joining Barcelona from Barcelona B in 2011, has only played 40 times for the club, which is far too less for a player like Montaya.

Montaya needs to fight for his place alongside Dani Alves in Barcelona, who is one of the best right-backs in the world.

But, there are reports, which also suggest Alves might leave Barcelona at the end of the season, and if he does so, the doors might open for Montaya to take up a starting role.

It is rest assured that the Spanish giants would not allow both quality right backs to leave the club.
