Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Manchester United's Javier Hernandez as Brendan Rodgers look to improve his side's front line next season.

The Reds have been struggling this season, and the main reason behind their disappointing performances is their lack of fire power up front.

Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, who was signed after Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona last summer, have failed to impress, with the duo only three goals between them in the Premier League this season.

Daniel Sturridge, who managed to net 24 goals in all competitions in 2013/14, has only managed to net five goals so far this season due to him getting sidelined for nearly five months with a thigh and a calf injury.

Due to this reason, Rodgers is looking to get a new striker this summer, and the Metro claims that he is targeting Hernandez.

The 26-year-old, who joined United from Mexican side Chivas for an undisclosed transfer fee in the summer of 2010, was loaned off to Real Madrid last summer, following the arrival of Radamel Falcao on a season long loan from Monaco.

Although United are not expected to take up the option to sign Falcao on a permanent basis, they will probably be looking to offload Hernandez as manager Louis van Gaal looks to bring in a world class striker to Old Trafford this season.

Hernandez will certainly be playing for Real Madrid as he was handed only a handful of starts by manager Carlo Ancelotti this season.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham are believed to be interested in the Mexican, but Liverpool are confident that the striker will be choosing them over these two clubs.

United are believed to be looking for a transfer fee somewhere in the region of £14 million for the Mexican striker.

Liverpool will certainly be benefited by the addition of Hernandez as the striker has a lot of experience in the Premier League, having played at United for four seasons.

Although the Mexican may not be as talented as Luis Suarez, he is certainly capable of providing more goals than what the Liverpool strikers have scored this season.
