Liverpool are preparing a bid for Manchester City player James Milner who is going to be out of contract during the summer.

The England international is currently discussing a new deal with the defending champions, but nothing concrete has come out of it, though Manchester City is confident that they would be able to convince the player to sign a new deal.

Liverpool have already thought of Milner as an ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard, as per the Times report.

The Reds skipper has already confirmed that the ongoing season would be his last as a Reds player. He will join LA Galaxy after the season ends. Gerrard made his debut for Liverpool in 1998 and has ever since been a major player for the Reds.

Galaxy manager Bruce Arena in his interview with LA Times said, "Steven Gerrard arrives in July and by then we will certainly have a plan available,"

"We have a club now with a proven history of success. All those things go hand in hand in making LA Galaxy a very attractive team for players such as Steven Gerrard."

It would be difficult to find a player to replace Gerrard in a Liverpool jersey, but the club needs to sign a player with similar credential.

Milner, who is already 29 might fail to fill Gerrard's boot, but the Manchester City player would surely bolster Liverpool's attacking option, which has lacked confidence.

It would not be an easy affair to take the Englishman away from a champion side, as he has played a pivotal role for Manchester City for a number of seasons now.

The player may not be known for scoring goals but provides plenty of crosses from the wings to help their strikers find the back of the net. He gives it his all during matches with many players considering him to be a complete team player. His work rate is something to be praised as well.

The Englishman is versatile, as he can play anywhere in the attacking position, but he thrives when he plays on either side of the wings.

The player joined the Citizens from Aston Villa in 2010 for £28.5 million and was included in a deal, which saw Stephen Ireland heading over to Aston villa.

Ever since, the player has made 170 appearances for the club.
