Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Closing in on £21.7m Move for Spain Defender After Winning Race to Sign England Striker

Liverpool have reportedly emerged victorious in the pursuit of Burnley striker Danny Ings, with the striker believed to be on his way to Anfield this summer on a Bosman free transfer.

The 22-year-old has been impressive in the English Premier League this season, scoring 10 goals in 33 games so far.

With Burnley already relegated from the Premier League, Ings, who is currently in the final year of his contract, is expected to leave Turf Moor at the end of the season.

Although a host of clubs, including Real Sociedad, Ajax, Manchester United, Manchester City and Schalke showed an interest, the striker has reportedly opted to join Liverpool, according to the Daily Mirror.

Despite Ings being available on a free transfer this summer, Liverpool will still have to pay the Clarets a compensation set by a tribunal (expected to be in the region of £3-5 million) as he is still under the age of 24.

The Reds will hope that Ings will be able to provide them with regular goals in 2014/15 as their current strikers have been poor season, with Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini only managing eight goals between them.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also reportedly considering triggering the release clause of Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez, following reports of the Reds sending their scouts to watch the 23-year-old during his side's La Liga clash against Barcelona on Saturday.

With the likes of Kolo Toure, Glenn Johnson and Jose Enrique expected to leave at the end of the season, the Reds are reportedly keen to sign new defenders this summer.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are looking to make a move for the centre-back whn the summer transfer window opens.

The 23-year-old, who is a product of Sociedad's youth academy, has been a star player for his team for a while now, making 120 appearances for the La Liga side since his debut in 2011.

Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked with a move for the defender in the past, but Liverpool are expected to win the race to sign him as they are reportedly ready to meet the £21.7 million release clause in his current contract.
