Liverpool are on the lookout for a striker in the January transfer window and Christian Benteke has been the recent striker linked to the Reds.

Gonzalo Higuain and Saido Berahino are other two strikers linked with Brendan Rodgers' side of late.

The Reds' boss interest in the Belgian striker is nothing new, for the Irishman had also shown some interest in the Aston Villa striker during the summer, who was valued for around £25m then.

As per reports of The Sun, Rodgers is considering signing the Belgian striker, placing a bid of around a £15m to prize him away from Villa Park.

The current striking options available with Rodgers are Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini. None of these strikers have put up decent performances for Rodgers to consider a starting position.

With Daniel Sturridge suffering with injury, Rodgers has started to play Raheem Sterling as the false number nine, but Liverpool has lacked in front of goal.

Sterling's best position is not as a striker, but he is a dangerous customer when he comes in from either flanks and makes those dangerous runs inside the box using his pace to full effect.

Hence, one should not be surprised to see the Reds keen on adding Christian Benteke in their line up, who is a great finisher and a strong physical player as well, who on his day could make any defense look foolish.

Benteke could make a perfect pair alongside the Englishman Daniel Sturridge once he comes back from injury.

But it would not be an easy task for the Reds to bring Benteke to Anfield as Aston Villa's boss, Paul Lambert holds the player to be one of the most important player in his squad.

With Aston Villa just three points away from the relegation zone, Lambert would require Benteke to bang in the goals and keep them same from the relegation zone.

The player moved to Aston Villa from Belgian club, Genk in 2012 after which he has been a major success in the English Premier League attracting interest from other top clubs across the EPL.

The player has scored 37 goals for Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Liverpool may be trying to sign a world class striker, but are also looking to offload some players.

As per the Sunday Telegraph, Liverpool might be willing to part ways with the Moroccan, Oussama Assaidi for £4.75million to United Arab Emirates club Al-Ahli.
