Liverpool Transfer News: After Losing Depay, Another Blow for Rodgers as PSV Say Midfielder is Not For Sale

PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands has revealed that Liverpool have not made any contacts with them over the availability of their midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum this summer, insisting that they would have given the Reds' a negative reply even if they had.

Earlier, there were reports of the 24-year-old wanting to move to England, with the Dutchman expressing his desire to move to a stronger league than the Eredivisie.

A host of Premier League sides, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle were being linked with a move for the midfielder, who has scored 13 goals in the Eredivisie so far this season, but Liverpool were believed to be leading the race to secure his signature.

However, Brands has rubbished all these rumours, insisting that they have not been contacted by Liverpool over the transfer of Wijnaldum.

"We have not had any contact with Liverpool about Wijnaldum," Brands told Sky Sports, adding that PSV will not be parting with any more players following news of them agreeing a deal with Manchester United for the transfer of Memphis Depay.

"We hope to keep the rest of the team together now because we are playing in the Champions League next season. I hope we don't have to sell any other players."

Meanwhile, Brands also revealed that Depay snubbed an offer from Liverpool and chose to move to Old Trafford to play under former Holland manager Louis van Gaal instead.

"Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player," added the 53-year-old Dutchman. "They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United."

"United contacted us a few weeks ago but the direct actions to the club and the player were in the last days and it moved very quickly."

"Louis played a big part in the decision. I worked with Louis for four years myself and I know he was very happy with Memphis after the World Cup and had a lot of confidence in him.

"He is the right coach for Memphis because he's great with young players who can learn a lot."
