Liverpool News: Reds Aiming to Finish Much Higher Than Fourth in Premier League, Says Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has indicated that the Reds are aiming to finish second in the Premier League this season after his side's narrow 1-0 victory over Swansea City on Monday.

Despite have a very difficult start to the 2014/15 campaign, the Reds have been playing well of late, recording consecutive wins in their last five fixtures.

Their recent run of good performances has seen them climb to fifth place in the Premier League, two points behind Manchester United.

Although it was thought that the Merseyside club would be satisfied with a fourth place finish in the Premier League this season, Rodgers says that his side are looking to aiming higher.

"Our aim is to finish as high as we can, not just to finish fourth," Rodgers told Sky Sports. "We go three points behind Arsenal and with Manchester City losing at the weekend, it gives at opportunity to push on."

Liverpool's next Premier League fixture is a home game against rivals Manchester United, and the Northern Irishman insists that his side can beat the Red Devils and claim the fourth spot.

"We know that we can win at Anfield in a fantastic game that we can all look forward to at the weekend. We will be pushing hard in that game as well."

Discussing the Swansea game, Rodgers feels that his side started playing well in the second half after he made a tactical alteration at the break.

"I thought second half we were outstanding," he added. "First half we were no where near the level that we would expect."

"It is a complex system we are playing the 3-4-3 and in the first half it didn't work for us. Give credit to Swansea because they played well, but we were just not pressing them high enough and when we had the ball, we gave it away too cheaply."

"We changed the structure of the midfield for the second half. We became a diamond and pushed the two sides further up so we had a 3-4-3 in a different format and I thought we dominated the second half. We had much better possession and looked like we could score more goals."
