Auto Expo 2018 Day 1 highlights: Top cars, bikes, scooters launch, concepts unveiling and more as it happened

The first day of the Auto Expo 2018 witnessed the launch of many cars and bikes while the day was largely dominated by the unveiling of the concepts by auto majors.

Maruti Suzuki kicked off the biennial show on Wednesday morning with the unveiling of its compact car design the FutureConceptS. The opening day of the expo then saw the arrival of the new Honda Amaze, Renault Trezor, Suzuki Burgman Street 125 scooter and a host of other models from Honda, Hero, and TVS.

Kia Motors, the sister brand of Hyundai, also made their official debut in India at the Auto Expo 2018. Emphasizing on the future mobility,  home-grown maker Tata Motors pulled the wraps off 45X and the H5X concept.

Mahindra also took us by surprise with its first convertible concept Stinger. The luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz and BMW brought the day's proceedings to a stylish finish with the Concept EQ, Mercedes-Maybach, and BMW 6 Series GT.

Auto Expo 2018 Day 1

With the BMW event, the day one of the 14^th edition of the Auto Expo 2018 comes to an end. What an eventful day it was. Don't forget to check the highlights of the day here.

6.35 pm: BMW Motorrad confirms the launch of G310R and G310GS in Inia in the second half of 2018.

6.20 pm: BMW MINI Countryman makes India debut.

6.15 pm: Moving on to the final event of the day, BMW.

5.45 pm: Maruti Suzuki takes the cover off E-Survivor electric compact SUV Concept.

16.20 pm: The home-grown UV maker Mahindra pulls the wraps off its stylish drop-top concept Stinger.

16.09 pm: Toyota Yaris makes India debut in style. The sedan, Toyota's first in the highly competitive B-segment will take on the likes of Honda City.

15.00 pm: The German carmaker Mercedes-Benz unveils the Concept EQ. The name EQ stands for Electric Intelligence and is derived from Mercedes-Benz's brand values of Emotion and Intelligence.

14.44 pm: Tata debuts Tiago and Tigor JP variants.

14.40 pm: Ashok Leyland unveils Circuit-S, an electric bus Powered by SUN Mobility's Swappable Smart Battery

12.28 pm: Tata Motors is all geared up to showcase a host of models including the electric versions of Tiago EV. The company will also launch the AMT variant of its compact SUV the Nexon.

12.18 pm: Yamaha launches YZF-R15 Version 3.0 at Rs 1.25 lakh.

11.32 am: Honda unveils the new stylish 160cc motorcycle X-Blade.

11.25 am: Hero adventure bike XPulse showcased in India.

11.14 am: All eyes are now on Hero's much-awaited adventure bike. You know what it is!

11.12 am: Hero MotoCorp's existing scooters Maestro and Duet make a surprise entry with 125cc engines.

 10.45 am: After Suzuki, now Piaggios' Aprilia SR 125 takes the stage. Piaggio also introduced a new scooter Aprilia Storm.

9.57 am: Hyundai announces the launch of the new Elite i20 facelift in India. The company also showcases its global EV Ioniq. Stay tuned. More coming soon.

9.33 am: The French carmaker Renault is up next. Renault is expected to display a slew of models at Auto Expo 2018.

9.32 am: Kia will launch its models in India later this year.

7.25 am: The event will kick-start from 8.00 am with the launch of the much-awaited Maruti Suzuki Swift.

The stage is all set for the Auto Expo 2018 with auto majors like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Honda, Hero, TVS, Mahindra, BMW, Kia, and others expected to launch and debut a slew of models on the inaugural day. The first two days of the Auto Expo 2018 are devoted to the media while the gates will be thrown open to the general public from February 9-14.

Pragati Maidan will host the Component Show from February 8-11 while the Motor Show will be held at India Expo Mart from February 9-14. The inauguration of the event is slated for February 8.

The 14^th edition of Auto Expo will begin with a press conference of Maruti Suzuki. The country's largest carmaker will set the ball rolling with the launches of its much-awaited Swift and the debut of its Concept Future S. The new and facelifted version of the Ciaz, Ertiga, and others are expected to grace the pavilion of the company at the Auto Expo 2018. The event will then see a host of models from Tata Motors, TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Renault, Mahindra, BMW, BMW Motorrad, Mercedes-Benz and many others.
