Rajinikanth-starrer "Lingaa" continues to rock the overseas box office with its impressive performance. "Lingaa" took huge openings on the first day and has managed to sustain its momentum in the first weekend despite getting mixed reviews from critics and audience.

The action drama film has beaten the total collection of Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam" at the United States box office. "Lingaa" has minted more than $1.3 million and has emerged as the all-time second highest grossing Tamil film in the US.

The superstar's "Endhiran" continues to be the all time highest grossing Tamil film in the country. It needs to be seen if "Lingaa" will be able to surpass "Endhiran" collections and take the top spot.

The film has also performed well in other key overseas markets including UK (£171,068) and Malaysia (1,263,060 Malaysia Ringgit), reported Bollyywood Hungama.

According to latest reports, "Lingaa" has minted over ₹80 crore in its opening weekend at the worldwide box office. The action entertainer raked in over ₹56 crore in India, while its collections from overseas markets amount to around ₹30 crore. Its worldwide first-weekend figures stand at approximately ₹86.3 crore, according to Andhraboxoffice.

After the fantastic performance in the first weekend, "Lingaa" witnessed a drop in its collections on Monday. While its performance in Tamil Nadu has been decent, it did poor business in several areas outside the state. Considering that the film has received average reviews from filmgoers, one needs to wait and watch as to how it fares in the following days.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that "Lingaa" run time will be trimmed by 9 minutes to make it crispier. The film's lengthy run time received flak and now the makers seem to have taken care of it.

"Lingaa update - 9 minutes of the film trimmed 2 make it crisper and racier from 2 morrow in all screens," tweeted entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai.

While the Tamil and Telugu version of "Lingaa" have hit the screens, the Hindi version is yet to make it to theatres. The film has Rajinikanth playing dual roles, while Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Shetty, Santhanam, Dev Gill and Jagapathy Babu appear in supporting roles.
