Lashkar-e-Taiba top terrorist and key conspirator of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, has been sentenced for 15 years by a Pakistani court barely a week after his arrest. 

On January 2, Pakistan arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operations commander Lakhvi in Lahore on terror financing charges.

Lakhvi arrested for financing terrorists

Previously, the department's spokesperson said that Lakhvi was arrested during a raid for allegedly financing terrorists.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab province had said last week, "Lakhvi is accused of running a dispensary, using funds collected for terrorism financing. He and others also collected funds from this dispensary and used these funds for further terrorism financing. He also used these funds for personal expenses."

The United States Department of State Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs wrote on Twitter, "We welcome Pakistan's arrest of terrorist leader Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi as an important step in holding him responsible for his role in supporting terrorism and its financing."

"We will follow his prosecution and sentencing closely and urge that he be held accountable for his involvement in the Mumbai attacks." The terrorist was behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 wherein 166 people were killed and 300 were left injured.
