The popular police procedural drama "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" returns to NBC with a two-hour special premiere episode of season 17 at 9pm on Wednesday, 23 September.

The sequels titled "Devil's Dissections" and "Criminal Pathology" will take viewers through a series of events with some few jaw-dropping scenes that will set the pace for the show.

The official synopsis of premiere episode states that the Special Victims Unit will be called to the beach where serial killer Gregory Yates (Dallas Roberts) buried his many victims. When another body washes ashore, Detective Rollins (Kelli Giddish) will try to coax him into confessing, but the surprising information he provides sends shock waves through the police department.

However, as the case goes to court, Rafael Barba (Raul Esparza) faces off against two hotshot defense attorneys in a trial that leads to blackmail, an incriminating confession, a new victim and a fugitive suspect.

The cast members to appear in the premiere episode include Mariska Hargitay as sergeant Olivia Benson, Peter Scanavino as detective Sonny Carisi and Ice T as detective Odafin Tutuola.

The spin-off series will also line up a set of guest stars such as Tamara Tunie as ME Warner, Elizabeth Marvel as counsellor Rita Calhoun, Mary Bacon as Susie Frain, Cody Lindquist as Brooke Norwalk Jefferson Mays as M E Rudnick, Delaney Williams as counsellor John Buchanan and Bronwyn Reed as Lucy.
