Only 10 days left for the grand inauguration of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off Kerala's prestigious project on Saturday, June 17. It is the fastest metro project in the country to receive mandatory safety certificates for starting commercial operations.

KMRL is also the first metro in India to cover the longest distance of 13 km in its first phase with 11 stations from Aluva to Palarivattom. Before making use of the service, there are some do's and dont's each passenger must be aware of before taking a ride.

Dont's

  • Passengers should maintain a distance between train and platform, and should not cross the yellow lined marked on the platform. 
  • Do not carry dangerous objects and you will be fined with Rs. 5000 and imprisonment upto 4 years.
  • Do not stick posters or unauthorised graffiti as it can land you in jail upto 6 months or a fine of Rs. 1,000.
  • Unauthorised entry to the train will lead to three months of imprisonment or Rs. 250 fine.
  • A fine of Rs 5,000 or four years imprisonment for obstructing metro operations.
  • Damage caused to metro rail properties can land you in prison for 10 years.
  • Imprisonment upto one month or Rs. 50 for travelling in metro without ticket.
  • Do not smoke at the station. Drunkard passengers causeing trouble to others will be fined upto Rs. 500.
  • Passengers are not supposed to carry pets, eatables to the station.

 Do's

  • Keep the station need and tidy.
  • The doors of the train get closed automatically in 30 seconds. In case of emergency, use the Passenger Emergency Intercom to communicate with the loco pilot or the emergency switch on the platform to stop the train.
  • KMRL has employed members of women's organisation Kudumbasree and 23 transgenders for management and maintenance of the metro services. Passengers are requested to behave properly to all the staff.
  • Give seats to senior citizens, pregnant ladies and handicapped passengers.
