Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the founder of Biocon

Biocon chairperson and managing director, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw announced late-night on Monday that she has tested positive for COVID-19. The billionaire entrepreneur has mild symptoms and hopes they stay that way.

"I have added to the Covid count by testing positive. Mild symptoms n I hope it stays that way," Shaw tweeted.

Well-wishes pray for recovery

Soon after Shaw's announcement about COVID-19, her well-wishers responded to the tweet, praying for her speedy recovery.

Shashi Tharoor wrote:

So sorry to hear this,@KiranShaw. We need you hale & hearty soon! Be well my friend.

Soumya Swaminathan (WHO chief scientist) wrote:

Get well soon.

A lot of her other followers also poured in their best wishes to the Indian entrepreneur.

COVID vaccine update

The announcement comes weeks after Biocon head applauded the clinical trials of Itolizumab--better known by its brand name ALZUMAb. The drug also received approval from the Indian drug regulator for treating COVID-19. Over 150 people have also recovered from COVID with the help of the new drug so far.

Shaw had even expressed her doubts about the world's first COVID vaccine by Russia. The absence of data on clinical trials and phase-I and phase-II human trials raise suspicion.

"If launching a vaccine prior to completion of Phase-III trials is acceptable to Russia, well so be it," Mazumdar-Shaw told PTI.
