Ravi Teja and Surender Reddy's second combo movie "Kick 2", which is a sequel to their hit "Kick", came in riding on loads of expectations. It has partially been successful in living up to them.
"Kick 2" is an action comedy entertainer with other commercial ingredients to attract the masses. Written by Surender Reddy, the movie deals with an ordinary story that is predictable in parts. Sadly, the story lacks the twists and turns to hold the attention of the audience.
Robin Hood (Ravi Teja), a doctor from the US, arrives in India to solve property disputes. He does not tolerate those who disrupt his comfort. After learning about his daredevil attitude, the villagers of Vilaspur - who are kept hostage by mining mafia don Suleman Singh Thakhur (Ravi Kishan) - plans to take his support to solve their problems.
The villagers assign Chaitra (Rakul Preet) to lure Robin Hood to the village. She pretends to fall in love with him to seek his support. But he rejects her love since he does not want to lose his comfort! An upset Chaitra decides to return to her village when Robin Hood prepares to go back to the US. What happens next will form the crux of the story.
Nothing much happens in the first half of "Kick 2". But the director has managed to engage the audience with loads of comedy sequences and a couple of action scenes. The second half seems to be very lengthy, dragging and less engrossing.
As usual, Ravi Teja has done a fantastic job and Kick 2 is his show. His mannerism, action, dance, comedy timing and dialogue diction are the biggest assets of the film. Rakul Preet Singh has done her parts well. Her chemistry with Ravi is one of the main highlights of the film.
As Pandit Ravi Teja, Brahmanandam tickles the funny bones and his scenes hold the movie together in the first half. Comedy scenes featuring Tanikella Bharani, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra and Posani Krishna Murali are memorable. As baddies, Ravi Kishan and Nikitin Dheer have done well. However, the director has wasted the talents of Ashish Vidyarthi.
"Kick 2" has brilliant production values. S S Thaman's music and Manoj Paramahamsa's camera work are the main attractions in the technical front. Amazing action and dance sequences, punch dialogues, wonderful art direction, beautiful selection of costumes and locations make the movie a visual treat.
In a nutshell, "Kick 2" is a routine formulaic mass entertainer. There is nothing great about the story. While Ravi Teja can seek comforts, the audience are not that lucky. It can be enjoyed if you go without any expectations. Yet, It is a must-watch movie for all Ravi Teja fans.
