It would be a more suitable to implement alcohol prohibition in a phased manner in Kearla, the Supreme Court observed on Thursday.
"Did a rift between Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president V M Sudheeran resulted in the formulation of the State's liquor policy," a bench asked in response to a plea filed by Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Association, reported Manorama Online.
The association had moved SC against a Kerala High Court order, which upheld the State government's liquor policy confining bar licenses only to five star hotels.
The bench asked if the bar owners are questioning the liquor policy of the State government and said that a bar license, by no means, is a fundamental right.
It further said that the long queues at beverage outlets will discourage youngsters from buying alcohol and overall alcohol consumption will come down with a fall in supply.
