Seventy two days after the brutal murder of Jisha took place, the Kerala law student's mother KK Rajeshwari got a new home in Mudakkuzha panchayat in Ernakulam. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan handed over the keys of the newly constructed house to the victim's mother during an event at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9.

The CM announced the news via his Facebook page on Friday that the government, which had offered to complete the construction of the house within 45 days, has finished the task before the deadline. "It was on May 25 that the LDF government had decided to build a house for Jisha's mother within 45 days and we are handing over the keys to the murder victim's mother on the 44th day of assuming the office," (translated) Pinarayi wrote on the social media page while sharing the photo of the house.

The two-bedroom building, which has been named "Jisha Bhavanam" upon the request of Rajeshwari, was constructed by Nirmiti Kendra after the panchayat allotted five cents of land to them. The total cost of the building is said to be Rs. 11.50 lakh.

"The house, located at Mudakkuzha panchayat was made by Nirmiti Kendra in Kakkanad after demolishing the foundation that was not made scientifically. Rajeshwari, who was at government Taluk hospital in Perumbavoor since July 28, can now shift to their new home, which has been named 'Jisha Bhavanam.' I sincerely thank everyone who helped and worked hard to make this possible," (translated) says the post on CM's Facebook page.

The event on Saturday was also attended by Perumbavoor MLA Eldhose Kunnapally, Chalakudy MP and actor Innocent and Ernakulam District Collector MG Rajamanickam.

The house was one of the promises made to the family by the Pinarayi-led government during the first Cabinet meeting on May 25, besides concerted efforts to nab the culprit, offering a job to the Dalit student's sister Deepa, and giving monthly pension to Rajeshwari.

Meanwhile, the investigators have arrested Amir Ul-Islam, a migrant construction worker from Assam, in connection with the murder. Ul-Islam has been remanded to police custody until July 13 at Kakkanad District Jail.
