In a shocking incident from Kerala, a 35-year-old man reportedly killed a class 3 student by slitting throat in Kanhangad, Kasaragod district, on 9 July.

The murder occurred on Thursday morning at 9:30am, while eight-year-old Muhammad Fayad was on his way to school along with his friends and siblings.

Fayad, being an Endosulfan victim, had a limp and was walking behind others when he was attacked near Chandanmullu, according to eye-witnesses.

Though the accused, identified as Vijayakumar fled the scene after killing the child, local residents in the area caught him and was handed over to the police.

Kanhangad DYSP Harishchandra Naik arrested Vijayakumar, who is reportedly a BJP worker. Investigators will also be looking at whether there is any connection between the accused and the victim's father, Abbas, who is a CPI (M) worker.

While some reports say the accused was earlier arrested for sending a fake bomb threat, other local reports also suggest that the accused is mentally ill.
