Reports of gunfire at the Strathmore University in Nairobi led to panic in Kenya on Monday, though the incident was later said to be part of a terror drill.

Locals in the Kenyan capital took to Twitter to describe hearing gunshots and seeing students rush out of the campus.

However, the police later said the gunshots were part of a mock terror drill, Kenyan media reported.

Some netizens claimed a few students were injured in the drill.

In April this year, militants gunned down nearly 150 students at the Garissa Univeristy in Kenya.

Several universities in Kenya had reportedly received threats of terror attacks at the time.
