From floods, droughts, earthquakes, landslides to cyclone, India witnessed quite a lot of natural calamities this year.

Kashmir Floods

The disastrous flood of the year, which affected Jammu & Kashmir, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab in Pakistan led to the death of nearly 600 people in India and Pakistan, and was the region's worst flooding in over a century. After the heavy rainfall that began from 2 September, many rivers flooded causing property loss and heavy causalities.

Cyclone Hudhud

One of the strongest tropical cyclones of the year 2014, cyclone Hudhud affected Andhra Pradesh, and later Uttar Pradesh and Nepal in October. Following the mishap, more than 100 deaths were confirmed in the most destructive cyclone.

Assam Floods

Incessant rains raised the water level of Brahmaputra river and affected the lives of more than one lakh people.

Pune Landslide

The landslide that occurred in Malin village in Ambegaon area in Pune is said to have killed more than 50 people. However, experts claim that the mishap occurred due to heavy rains and deforestation for a Windmill Project.

Meanwhile, Odisha, Meghalaya, Allahabad, Guwahati and many other regions were also affected by floods in 2014.

The Badakhshan Mudslides

One of the most underreported tragedies of 2014, Badakhshan Mudslides, has widely claimed to be a major one. On 2 May this year, a pair of mudslides occured in Argo District, Badakhshan province, Afghanistan. Although there were no certainity on the death toll, various sources claimed the number of deaths from 350 to 2,700. The slide buried around 300 houses and affected 1,000 homes in the rural Afghan province and affected over 14,000 people, and almost 2,500 people went missing.

North East earthquake

Three earthquakes hit north-eastern regions of India in November with an intensity measuring 5.6 and 4.3 on Richter scale. However, no casualties or property damages were reported.
