Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram has said that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus pandemic on Monday, August 3. The Congress MP has gone into home quarantine.

Karti Chidambaram took to Twitter to give an update about his health. Saying that his symptoms are mild, he wrote, "I have just tested positive for Covid. My symptoms are mild and as per medical advice I am under home quarantine. I would urge all those who have recently been in contact with me to follow medical protocol."

Former Union Minister Chidambaram's son has urged those who were in contact with him to follow the medical protocol.

Meanwhile, P Chidambaram also took to Twitter saying that Karti Chidambaram is in Chennai and he has isolated himself. The senior Congress leader is in his farmhouse in Managiri (near Karaikudi). "Thanks for all the kind questions," Chidambaram tweeted.

Karti Chidambaram joined the list of politicians who contracted the deadly virus. Yesterday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit tested Covid-19 positive.

Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah stated that he had undergone a Covid test after showing initial symptoms.

"My health is fine but I am getting admitted to a hospital on the advice of doctors," tweeted Amit Shah. Shah also said that he had requested those who had come in contact with him in the last few days to get tested for coronavirus and isolate themselves.

Also, on August 2 night, Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa tweeted that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is being admitted at Manipal hospital.

"Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine," CM Yediyurappa wrote.

Meanwhile, India on Monday reported 52,972 new coronavirus infections and 771 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 1.8 million or 1,803,695, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data stated.

The overall Covid-19 pandemic has claimed 38,135 lives in the world's second-most populous country.
