Rapper Kanye West, 39, was hospitalised after suffering a breakdown last week. He has been admitted for exhaustion and sleep deprivation and his wife Kim Kardashian is by his side in the hospital. People reports that Kanye is allegedly very 'paranoid' and 'is under constant watch for his safety'. But he is not the first Hollywood celebrity to have suffered mental health issues. Many of them have battled mental illness successfully.

Catherine Zeta-Jones suffers from bipolar disorder II which seemed to have consumed her entire life. She started her treatment for this in 2011 and has since continued it. She stated in an interview to People, that there's no need to feel ashamed or hide it from society.

This singer suffered a public mental breakdown in 2008 leading to her losing custody of her children. She suffers from bipolar disorder and after having been through extensive treatment, she is now back as a singer and in the limelight.

Mel Gibson suffers from bipolar disorder I and goes through extreme mania and extreme depression. The actor also had alcohol abuse issues. He admitted he was manic depressive and is reportedly now on meds.

Amand Bynes was suffering from untreated schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. And she found that out late. She tried to burn her neighbour's house and it was then that her mental health came into question. She spent four months in rehab and is now on medication.

 Drew Barrymore suffered from bipolar disorder and panic attacks. And she was addicted to alcohol and drugs. This does not make for a healthy and happy life. The actress went through rehab to deal with all her issues. Now she is not on medication and seems to have come out on top successfully.

Drug abuse and bulimia are some health issues that Sir Elton John has battled. It was only in 1990 that Sir Elton John finally checked into rehab for cocaine addiction and bulimia.

No one would think this Oscar-winning actress had depression issues. But Halle Berry did suffer through it. When she broke up with famous baseball player David Justice in 1997, she attempted to kill herself by gassing herself in her car. Luckily, she gave up on the idea. But she did go through low self-esteem issues and is now on a better path.

In 2010, she checked into a rehab centre to sort out her issues.This seems to have changed her life around because she is now back to singing and her body image has undergone a drastic change too. She no longer feels she has to hide her real self from the world.

Jim Carrey may be a laugh riot on screen but he did battle depression early in his career. He spoke about this only in 2009 when he revealed that he had been on Prozac. Today, he does not take anti-depressants and is back to being his usual goofy self.
