Varun Tej-Krish's "Kanche" has made a decent collection after getting a superb opening at the US box office in its first weekend. But, it has failed to break the opening weekend record of "Bhale Bhale Magadivoy" (BBM).

Absolute Telugu Cinemas, which has acquired the overseas rights of "Kanche" for a whopping Rs 1.25 crore, held premiere shows in several locations across North America on Wednesday. The movie registered a good amount of occupancy everywhere and also garnered positive reviews from the viewers.

The word-of-mouth was expected to take its business upwards on Thursday, but "Kanche" witnessed a drop of 15% due to some unknown reasons. The movie showed big leaps on Friday and Saturday, but its collection once again fell on Sunday. The film has grossed $380,361 [Rs 2.47 crore] from 130 screens at the US box office in the first weekend.

Leading Indian film trade analyst Taran Adarsh ‏tweeted, "Telugu film #Kanche - USA: Wed $ 53,057, Thu $ 46,751, Fri $ 99,482, Sat $ 120,647, Sun $ 60,424. Total: $ 380,361 [â'¹ 2.47 cr] @RentrakIndia"

"Kanche" has done better collection than Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's "Shaandaar", which has raked in $3,36,304 (Rs 2.18 crore) from 136 screens at the US box office in the first weekend. However, after seeing its hype, promotion and huge screen count, some trade analysts had predicted that the film would beat the opening weekend record of Nani's "Bhale Bhale Magadivoy".

"Bhale Bhale Magadivoy" has become a surprise hit in the international markets. The Nani and Lavanya starrer has collected $718,378 [Rs 4.80 crore] from 113 screens at the US box office in the first weekend. Its day-wise breakup is $ 70,132 on Thursday, $ 164,459 on Friday, $ 248,546 on Saturday and $ 235,241 on Sunday. "Kanche", however, could not beat this record with a huge margin.

The Krish-directed war drama has collected US$6,826 (4.43 lakh) from two screens in Canada and MYR15,921 (Rs 2.43 lakh) from 2 screens at the Malaysian box office in its opening weekend. "Kanche" has collected Rs 2.54 crore gross at the overseas box office in its first weekend. It has been successful in returning 100% of their investments to its distributors.
