If the latest reports are to be believed, Jr NTR's "Temper" might back out of the Sankranti (Pongal) race.

The makers of "Temper" had earlier confirmed that the action entertainer will be releasing on 9 January. The film's shooting was progressing well and was expected to wrap up soon. But the sudden demise of NTR's brother Janakiram in a fatal car accident has halted the film's shooting.

NTR is mourning the death of his brother and so the producer of "Temper" decided to give a 10-day break for the actor. "NTR was devastated by the passing away of his brother. Therefore, the film's producer decided to take a 10-day break from the film's shooting," a source from the film's unit told IANS.

With the shooting halted, it is speculated that the team will not be able to complete the project on time. The latest buzz is that the NTR starrer might not release for Sankranti, though there is no official confirmation in this regard.

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, "Temper" has NTR playing a cop's role for the second time after his 2013-hit flick "Baadshah."

If "Temper" backs out of the Sankranti race, the slot will be cleared for other films that are planning to hit the screens during the festival period. According to the latest reports, Vikram-Shankar's magnum opus will be releasing on 9 January. Since the film is made with a huge budget, the makers were looking for a suitable date to release it in all three languages including Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Earlier, there were reports that "I" might hit theatres on 15 January, but there was uncertainty over the release date as Pawan Kalyan-Venkatesh's "Gopala Gopala" is also releasing around the same time. Now, reports have emerged that the Vikram starrer will likely be censored this week and the film will be hitting screens on 9 January.

"#I is getting ready for censor this week likely Dec 18. All set 4 Big Bang release in Tamil, Telugu & Hindi on Jan 9," tweeted entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai.

It is also being said that Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's upcoming film "Pataas," which was planned for December end release, might get pushed and release for Sankranti. An official confirmation is still awaited.
