'Jil' Movie Review Roundup: Watch it for Gopichand-Raashi Khanna's Acting

Gopichand's "Jil", which hit theatres on 27 March, has garnered mixed reviews and decent ratings from film critics, who say that the movie should be watched for Gopi's performance and rich production elements.

Directed by debutant Radha Krishna, "Jil" revolves around the story of fire officer Jai (Gopichand) who lands in trouble when he goes forward to save the life of Mumbai don Chota Naik's (Kabir Duhan Singh) aide Ranganath (Brahmaji), who is running away with the money of Chota Naik. How Jai faces Chota Naik forms the crux of the story.

Film critics are impressed with Gopichand, Raashi Khanna and others cast members' performances and the technical elements in "Jil". What disappointed them are the tried-and-tested story and the dragging narration in second half. The movie has been rated an average of three out of five stars. The Times of India Ratings: 3

The film lacks the sort of energy that you expect from an action entertainer like this. The tone of the film flip-flops from being drab to extremely violent within a matter of few minutes, which never lets you to sink your teeth deep into the story. Ghibran's music is good on the ears and Sakthi Saravanan's cinematography makes the whole film visually appealing. The question is - Is that enough to keep you hooked on to the screens?

Idle Brain Ratings: 3

First half of the film is nice. Second half is little slow. Plus points of the film are good technical standards, great production values, songs and stylized content. On the flip side, the content in second half is not effective and it's violent at times.

India Glitz Ratings: 3

An action film that passes muster. Once watchable with no great expectations. Good visuals, glossy action, voguish (although Bollywoodish) songs are the pluses. Story-wise, it falls flat.

123 Telugu Ratings: 3.25

Jil is one of the most stylized films that has come out in the recent past. Stunning visuals, peppy music and decent performances are basic assets. If you end up bearing the routine story and a predictable second half, you can definitely watch the masala entertainer this weekend.

Finally Jil is planned to be a stylish commercial entertainer. The style part is top notch but the story drags on predictable lines with second half totally going haywire with slow paced narration with complete absence of the right kind of emotions, romance, thrills and comedy to make it gripping. Not a film that can not be missed!

Director chose a beaten to the death plot and executed in a stylish way. Gopichand fans who like to watch him in full action mode will get their ticket's worth. For audience who expected a fresh film from Gopichand may not be pleased with this routine action formula film. Despite its shortcomings Jil has its moments to keep you entertained. It is a paisa vasool masala entertainer that can be watched once. It may not click at the box office on par with Loukyam but it has the goods to do well.
