According to a Newsweek report, the theme of this year's White House Christmas is "Time-Honored Traditions" designed by Melania.

The White House Christmas Tree is placed in the Blue Room which is decorated with gold and blue ornaments that constitutes the seals of all the states in the U.S. and its territories. Another tree is placed in the Red Room which is decorated with cookie ornaments and is surrounded by peppermint candies and sweets.

"Pastry chefs made and decorated 31,000 Christmas cookies and built a 350-pound gingerbread replica of the White House. White House staffers and more than 150 volunteers wrapped 180,000 feet of lights around 53 Christmas trees and hung more than 12,000 ornaments," Business Insider reported.

About 71 wreaths have been placed on the doors and windows of the presidential mansion, the report added. "The first lady has seen to every detail," Melania's press secretary Stephanie Grisham told ABC News. Preparations took 1,600 hours.

"I told you that we would be saying 'Merry Christmas' again, right?" he recently told in a speech in Missouri and boy, he hasn't disappointed.

While the White House looks decked up for the holidays, several question how much money has been spent on the lavish decor and who is paying for it?

The administration is not revealing how much money has been spent in making the Christmas merry at the White House this year. However, the amount spent on the decoration appears consistent with their predecessors', ABC reports. "Christmas decor is budgeted," Grisham said.

Deesha Dyer, who was the social secretary during Obamas' final two Christmases at the White House, told ABC that most of the decoration objects including yards of garland, ribbon and bows and other decorations are usually reused.

"There's a warehouse that has all the White House Christmas decorations from all the years, so what we'd do is we go in there and use those, and those are already bought and paid for," Dyer said.

About 25,000 guests constituting of politicians and political supporters are invited to the receptions hosted at the venue. Trump aims at hosting at least 100 Christmas open houses by the end of this year. "To suggest that there are a hundred open houses—I don't know how you physically do that," Anita McBride, who was chief of staff to first lady Laura Bush, told ABC News.

Of the many receptions hosted at the White House, Melania and Donald Trump will host about 20 of the gatherings. Guests attending these receptions will receive a brochure featuring the theme signed by the president, first lady and their son, Barron Trump.

Open houses traditionally constitute a festive tour with musical performances. Military bands are also seen playing in the presidential house.
