Ashwin Babu and Tejaswi Madivada starrer "Jatha Kalise" (Jata Kalisey), which marks the debut of Rakesh Shashi as director, has garnered mixed reviews and good ratings from the film critics.
"Jatha Kalise" is a romantic entertainer with a good dose of comedy. Rishi (Ashwin), the CEO of a software firm in the US, comes to Vizag to attend his friend's marriage, but decides to return to the US after the wedding is called off. So he begins his journey to Hyderabad in a cab. IAS aspirant Tejaswi (Tejaswini), who is going to attend an interview in Hyderabad, accidentally gets into the same cab. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Critics say Rakesh Shashi has chosen a thin storyline and has created a weak screenplay with some unnecessary comedy and spoof scenes. The first half is entertaining, but the narration is slow and drags in the second half. The debutante director has failed to get a proper script for the film, add the critics.
Ashwin Babu and Tejaswi Madivada have delivered good performances, which are big assets of "Jatha Kalise". Some comedy scenes and spoofs of "Srimanthudu", "Gabbar Singh" and "Bengal Tiger" are also among the highlights of the movie. The film has good production values and Sai Karthik's music and cinematography are the big attractions in the technical front, say critics.

Though the story isn't extraordinary, it's been executed well. The locations are a treat to watch, cinematography is sharp. The music is reasonably good. Ashwin is tall, dances well and shows extreme ease in front of the camera. He has handled comedy well and has it in him to become a mainstream hero. Tejaswi is her natural self, exuberant, firm and confident. Dialogues are well written.
Jatha Kalise has some good moments going its way. The hilarious comedy scenes in the first half and the spoofs of various hit films in the end are huge assets of the film. But a weak screenplay, and some unnecessary travel scenes spoil the flow and make this film just a time pass entertainer this weekend. Watch it if you have nothing else to do.
The hero is the CEO of a software firm in the US, but his body language is anything but that. The director has no proper script in place and wastes good time with plain silly jokes. On the whole, this film drags on with no story. Except for Tejaswi and some comedy, it is totally tedious watch. This one is only for mass audiences.
Like the movie Journey, which released couple of years ago, it treads on similar way to some extent but the initial promise soon fades away. Although the backdrop of the movie is good, the narration is not up to the mark. The film has a flimsy storyline. Since the writer has not enough meat to make the film lengthy enough, he has used parody and spoof scenes extensively to fill the gap.
