Security forces gunned down Abu Bakr, one of the top commanders of terror outfit Laskar-e-Taiba, in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Sopore area's Bomai village in Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

A gunfight was reported between security forces and terrorists in the Bomai village of Sopore located in the state's Baramulla district. Security forces carried out search operations in the area after terrorists were reported to be hiding in a building. The area has been cordoned off.

In another encounter, at least one terrorist from the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit was gunned down in an encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Bijbehara town of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday, the state police said.

The gunfight started after forces challenged militants in Bevoora-Hadigam village of Dachnipora belt of Bijbehara, a police official told Greater Kashmir.

The deceased terrorist was identified as Basit Rasool, a resident of Marhama village in Bijbehara. He was pursuing B Tech from Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) before joining militant ranks.

"Arms have also been recovered from him (the terrorist)," Brigadier Raja Chakroborty, Commander Rashtriya Rifles, told reporters.

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter on December 8 in Arwani area of Anantnag district of Kashmir. Railway authorities had suspended train services from Budgam-Banihal due to the encounter, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
