An encounter is underway between security forces and terrorists after the latter stormed into a government building in the Pampore district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday morning. Two security personnel, including an army jawan and a police officer, were injured in the encounter.

Two-three terrorists stormed into the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) campus located in the Sempora area of Pampore district around 6.30 am and set it on fire to distract the security forces. Gunshots were heard as the forces moved in to clear the area, according to the police.

The EDI campus is located on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, around 10 kilometres from Srinagar.

The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway, local media reported.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot but were not allowed to enter the premises due to security reasons, an army official told the Indian Express.

There have been no reports of any casualties yet.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has been briefed about the situation in the area by the army chief.

Seven people, including a civilian, three paramilitary commandos of the army and three terrorists, were killed in a gunbattle that lasted for 48 hours in the EDI premises in February this year.
