Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.

According to local media, the two militants has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Brath Kalan and Basharat Ahmad Sheikh of Bomai Sopore. A joint team of 22 Rashtriya Rifles, 92, 177 and 179 battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battled the terrorists.

The police have claimed that the slain militants were behind Wednesday's grenade attack on the police station in Sopore in which four policemen were injured.

Security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation at around 3.30 am after they received information about the presence of several terrorists in the Natipora area of Sopore, police officials told the media.

The terrorists, who were reportedly hiding in a house, opened fire at the security forces during the search operation, which led to a gun battle.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani army started indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics  and mortars along the LoC in Naushera and Krishna Ghati sectors.

Last week, Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, a top Hizbul commander and successor of Burhan Wani and another militant, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district. On May 21, the Indian Army  killed four militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, after battling the infiltrators for over 36 hours.
