Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown, Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has reportedly been admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital. He is currently in ICU under the doctor's observation.

"Yes it is true that Irrfan khan is admitted to ICU at Kokilaben in Mumbai because of a colon infection. We would keep everyone updated. He is under doctor's observation. His strength and courage have helped him battle and fight so far and we are sure with his tremendous willpower and prayers of all his well-wishers, he will recover soon," an official spokesperson said in a statement.

The 54-year-old actor's health suddenly worsened as a result of which he required urgent medical attention. The actor has been admitted to the hospital's ICU. The actor is accompanied by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and two kids.

The acclaimed actor had a rough few years after being diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour. He had flown to London for the treatment that kept the actor from showbiz for almost a year.

Irrfan is known for his powerful performances in films such as The Lunchbox, Piku, Maqbool, and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns. He was last seen in Angrezi Medium opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Khan recently lost his mother Saeda Begum who dies due to natural causes. She was 95. The actor was not in Mumbai and could not attend his mother's funeral. According to reports, Irrfan was in Jaipur and attended the funeral via video call.

Saeda Begum had been keeping unwell for a very long time. She belonged to the Nawab family of Tonk and resided in the Beniwal Kanta Krishna Colony in Jaipur.

Director Shoojit Sircar had expressed grief over the demise of his mother. Sircar said, "It's very sad. I have yet to talk to him, though. I will be calling him."

Irrfan's latest flick "Angrezi Medium" had a limited run in theatres as cinema halls across India were shut due to the pandemic. The film has eventually released in the OTT platforms.

"Angrezi Medium" marked Irrfan's return in showbiz despite his ailing condition.

Ever since the story of Irrfan Khan being rushed to the hospital broke out, rumours started making the rounds about his health. In an attempt to rubbish any "extreme assumptions," an official statement has been released.
