It looks like the wait for a new iOS jailbreak is going to be longer than we thought. After the iOS 9 jailbreak by Pangu, the jailbreak community has been weirdly silent on their next endeavour.

Apple has continued to release its timely software updates for iOS devices and two major updates iOS 9.1 and iOS 9.2 have already been rolled out. While the iPhone-maker works on the next update, iOS 9.2.1, which is currently in beta stage, a renowned iOS hacker teased a workable jailbreak running on the unreleased software.

The iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak was spotted running on an iPhone 6. As proof, Luca Todesco (@qwertyuiop) shared a screenshot of Cydia running on iOS 9.2.1 beta, which pretty much confirms the jailbreak.

So what's the hold up in releasing the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak to the public, you might ask. For starters, Todesco clearly stated "No releases" in a tweet accompanying the screenshot. If the developer is not willing to share the jailbreak publicly, there isn't much to go on about. For what it's worth, Todesco did confess that he doesn't release his work "unless bugs are dead."

Another reason for not releasing the teased jailbreak is that iOS 9.2.1 is still in beta and Apple is ironing out any bugs that could lead to a jailbreak among other bug fixes. We can expect the public release of iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak only after Apple officially rolls out iOS 9.2.1 and fails to fix the bugs used in the iOS 9.2.1 jailbreak.

But I wouldn't pin too many hopes on that if I were you.

This doesn't mean there aren't any jailbreakers who are currently working on a new jailbreak for iPhones and iPads. A recent report hinted that TaiG may release an iOS 9.2 Jailbreak very soon but the information was withdrawn shortly after.

At this moment, there is no fixed date for the next jailbreak release but if you wish to keep your device jailbroken, your safest bet is to stay on iOS 9 without upgrading to iOS 9.1 or iOS 9.2 software.
