Italy recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over 10-man Netherlands in Bari, while Spain succumbed to a late 1-0 defeat against France at Stade de France in Thursday's round of international friendly fixtures.

Antonio Conte's era as Italy coach got off to a winning start as his side inflicted a blow to Guus Hiddink in his first fixture as the new Netherlands boss.

First half strikes from Ciro Immobile and Daniele De Rossi proved enough as the Dutch side were reduced to ten men very early on in the game.

The game started with the Azzurri breaking the deadlock in the 3rd minute through Immobile, who, after chasing down a long ball from Leonardo Bonucci, rounded goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen before tapping the ball into an empty net.

Things went from bad to worse for Netherlands in the 9th minute as they conceded a penalty and Bruno Martins Indi was given his marching orders for bringing down Simone Zaza inside the box.

De Rossi stepped up and eased the ball into the bottom left corner from the resulting penalty.

Italy got an opportunity to further increase their lead in the 20th minute when Immobile intercepted a poor pass and charged towards the box before squaring the ball towards Simone Zaza. The Italy striker unleashed a fierce effort towards goal, but an alert Cillessen managed to keep the ball out.

At the half hour mark, Conte's side got another chance when Mattia De Sciglio cut in from the left and picked up Zaza with a cross. The striker did well to chest the ball in Immobile's direction, but the Borussia Dortmund attacker dragged his effort wide.

Netherlands got their very first chance of the game in the early stages of second half when Andrea Ranocchia's clearance was picked up by Daley Blind and headed into the path of his new Manchester United teammate Robin van Persie. The striker had a good chance to halve the deficit but his effort was wide of the target.

Italy then responded by creating two back-to-back chances just before the hour mark. However, Cillessen came to Netherlands' rescue as he managed to palm away Bonucci's 35-yard effort in the 56th minute before producing another save to deny Zaza a couple of minutes later.

The last chance of the game fell to Mattia Destro in the 81st minute, but the Roma striker could only head Antonio Candreva's cross wide of the post.

Meanwhile, France narrowly edged Spain thanks to a late winner from Loic Remy.

Spain, who were poor in the 2014 World Cup as they were unable to qualify for the knockout stages, were again unimpressive as they failed to get a single effort on target in the match.

France, on the other hand, were a little better as they managed to test David De Gea quite a number of times.

The game started with Karim Benzema coming close to breaking the deadlock in the 9th minute as he forced a good low save from De Gea after receiving a pass from Mathieu Valbuena.

The Manchester United goalkeeper was again in the thick of the action in the 39th minute as he kept out another strike from Benzema, who took a shy at goal from the edge of the box after receiving a good pass from Antoine Griezmann.

After the break, France finally broke the deadlock through Benzema, who tapped home from close range after getting at the end of Moussa Sissoko's cross. But his celebrations were cut short as the goal was ruled out for offside.

Fifteen minutes later, Blaise Matuidi, after receiving a clever flick from Paul Pogba, sent the ball towards Valbuena, who made a good run into the box. However, in the end, the move came to nothing as Valbuena dragged his effort wide of the target,.

Just as it looked like the game was heading towards a goalless draw, substitute Loic Remy finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute.

Valbuena, after getting the ball from Benzema, cut the ball back for Remy and the Chelsea striker made no mistake as he smashed the ball into the top corner of the net.

David Silva got a good chance to level the scores late in the game but his low effort rolled wide, ensuring a 1-0 win for France.
